Want a better understanding of your kidney health? This test is a good start.

Your kidneys play a significant role in your health, as they are responsible for recycling the reusable components in your blood (such as minerals) while also discarding waste products by releasing them into your urine. Albumin is a major protein found in your blood, and virtually no albumin appears in your urine when your kidneys are functioning correctly.

This test is used to screen for kidney disease by detecting if albumin is present in the urine through an ACR (albumin-creatinine ratio), a calculation that divides the amount of albumin measured in the urine by the urine creatinine level to correct for urine concentration. Creatinine is an indicator of urine concentration because it is released into the urine at a constant rate.

Preparation

What's Included

Albumin-Creatinine Ratio:

A calculation that divides the amount of albumin measured in the urine by the urine creatinine level to correct for urine concentration.

Why Consider This Test

Detection

30 million U.S. adults are estimated to have CKD (chronic kidney disease); most people (96 percent) with kidney damage or mildly reduced kidney function are not aware of having CKD.1

Detection
More Common in Women

CKD is estimated to be more common in women than in men (16 percent vs. 13 percent).1

Female
Proactive Prevention

CKD can be treated; with early diagnosis and treatment, it's possible to slow or stop the progression of kidney disease.1
