Albumin:Creatinine Ratio
Your kidneys play a significant role in your health, as they are responsible for recycling the reusable components in your blood (such as minerals) while also discarding waste products by releasing them into your urine. Albumin is a major protein found in your blood, and virtually no albumin appears in your urine when your kidneys are functioning correctly.
This test is used to screen for kidney disease by detecting if albumin is present in the urine through an ACR (albumin-creatinine ratio), a calculation that divides the amount of albumin measured in the urine by the urine creatinine level to correct for urine concentration. Creatinine is an indicator of urine concentration because it is released into the urine at a constant rate.
